This week, guest speaker Geoff walked us through 1 Thessalonians 1:3-10, challenging us to replace our natural inclination to grumble with a spirit of prayerful thankfulness for the living faith within our church family. Highlighting the Apostle Paul’s joy over the Thessalonian church, Geoff pointed out that genuine faith is always visible: it produces tangible works, a labor of love for the unlovable, and a steadfast endurance fueled by hope. He reminded us that this transformation rests entirely on the foundation of God’s electing love, drawing us in and choosing us even when we were far from Him. Just as the Thessalonians turned from dead idols to become bold imitators of Christ in the midst of severe affliction, we are called to stop downplaying our faith and instead serve as visible, courageous witnesses of God’s grace to the world around us.

Our next Wednesday In The Word gathering is on September 9th, ‍ from 7:15pm at the Rogers (68 Fernleigh Street) ! This is open to anyone and everyone (13+), and if you’ve got younger kids that need to come along, they’re welcome to hang out too! Be sure to reflect on these questions as you read the passage so that you can come prepared to share! What did you find interesting about this passage? Why? What questions come to mind when reading this passage? What do we learn about people from this passage? What do we learn about God (or Jesus) from this passage? In light of this passage and what we’ve discussed, how will you practically apply it this week? I accidentally put our previous gathering’s passage in the newsletter/notices. What Are Our Kids Learning?

On Sunday, the children learned about the rise and fall of Israel’s first king, Saul. Even though God had always been a perfect King to the Israelites, they wanted to be just like the surrounding nations and demanded a human king to lead them and fight their battles. God gave them what they asked for: a tall, handsome, and strong warrior named Saul. While Saul started out well, he quickly began to care more about pleasing the crowd than obeying God. Because he repeatedly chose to follow his own ideas instead of God’s clear commands, God ultimately rejected him as king.

We talked about how Israel’s terrible decision to reject God didn’t stop God’s perfect plan. This points us beautifully to the Gospel! Hundreds of years later, God sent the ultimate, perfect King: Jesus. Just as God was rejected by the Israelites in the days of Samuel, Jesus was rejected by His people and nailed to a cross. But in His incredible wisdom, God used that very rejection to bring about the greatest rescue mission in history! Through Jesus’s death and resurrection, our sins are forgiven, and He is crowned as the forever King who changes our hearts so we actually want to obey Him.

Their memory verse is: “I will raise up your offspring after you, … and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”* - 2 Samuel 7:12–13*
